Academy Under-14's Lift National Academy Cup
Bangor City Academy Under-14's Beat Risca United 2-0 in Monday's FAW Academy Cup Final at Newtown
May Day Bank Holiday saw Bangor City Under 14’s meet Risca United in the FAW Academy Cup Finals Day at Newtown’s Latham Park.
The Academy Under-14's secured their place in the final by way of beating last year's Under-14 champions Flint Town United 3-2 in the Semi Final and a 2-1 Quarter Final victory over The New Saints at Park Hall.
In a very closely contested match, Bangor pressed their Gwent opposition in all areas of the pitch and City’s persistence saw Mohammed El-Arab put the Citizens 1-0 ahead with a close range effort.
Risca had to chase the game after the interval, which meant the Bangor defence had to soak up plenty of pressure and look for opportunities to break quickly on the counter attack.
Chances were created and two goalscoring opportunities had gone begging before the Risca keeper parried brilliantly to deny City a second goal. However, the young Citizens duly doubled their advantage as El-Arab claimed his second goal of the afternoon with a simple tap-in.
By this time the pressure was on and all four Bangor substitutes were introduced into the action with everyone playing their part to secure a Final Score of Bangor City 2 – 0 Risca United.
Coaches Alwyn Jones and Nigel Barry were absolutely delighted with the team's performance, developed through plenty of hard work, commitment and a positive team ethic.
Congratulations everyone! Llongyfarchiadau pawb!
