Citizens U19's Bounce Back against Nomads U19's
A second-half brace from George Harry ensures all three points belong to the Citizens in a tight encounter on WPDL North MD2
Bangor City U19’s returned to winning ways on Sunday (3 September) with a hard fought victory over title favourites Connah’s Quay Nomads U19's on the 3G at Nantporth. Coach Dave Cavanagh gave a debut to young George Harry, a summer recruit from Wrexham who made several National League appearances for The Racecourse outfit last season.
In an extremely tight first half against a well organised Connah’s Quay, City found themselves falling behind to a well worked goal down the right hand side which was finished off at the near post. City pressed for the equaliser with both George Harry and Alex Boss looking dangerous up front. The young Citizens had to work hard to stay in the game, with Leon Jones pulling off a fantastic save just before halftime to keep City in the game.

City made an early substitution in the second half with Geraint Jones replacing Louis McFarlane which improved the midfield balance. The young Citizens then began to take a foothold in the game and this paid dividends when on 52 minutes Sam Jones picked up the ball in his own half and attacked through the centre of the field before playing a defence-splitting pass through to George Harry who kept his composure well to score low into the corner of the goal.
City continued to press and another Gethin Thomas pass in behind the Connah’s Quay defence released Alex Boss who won the race to the ball only to be pulled down by the keeper to earn the young Citizens a penalty in the 73rd minute. Up stepped George Harry to score and put City into the lead.
Connah’s Quay Nomads pressed late on for the equaliser but City's defence stood firm with some solid defending from Guto Williams and Cai Owen in the centre. Goalkeeper Leon Jones capped a fine display between the sticks to ensure City completed the game with their first win of the season.
