Bangor City was fortunate enough to receive a very welcome visitor for Saturday's JD WPL match between The Citizens and Carmarthen Town.
It's now an almost incredible 40 years ago that John was sold by Bangor City to then Third Division (League One) club Mansfield Town for a £10,000 fee.
In a meteoric rise, John went from non-league football with Bangor City to representing Northern Ireland in the 1982 World Cup Finals held in Spain.
Along the way, the commanding centre-back would captain Glasgow Rangers before a 5-year spell with Watford (1984-89) and then Leeds United. John played 18 times as Leeds won the Football League First Division title in the 1991/92 season, the last season before the formation of the Premier League.
Bangor City FC Media chatted to John about his career and you can listen to the full interview via the official Bangor City FC audioBoom channel by clicking [here]
