The Wales U18 Academy squad earned a thoroughly deserved victory against the Republic of Ireland to reclaim the John Coughlin Memorial Cup at the home of Tramore AFC.
After a goalless draw on Tuesday, in the first game between the teams, there was all to play in the second match of the doubleheader and both sides created goalscoring chances in the first half.
The breakthrough game in the second half when Harri Horwood of Aberystwyth Town scored the opening goal in the 69th minute to give Wales the lead.
Horwood was quick to pounce on a rebound after striker Liam Doherty (Aberystwyth Town) forced Irish goalkeeper Luke McNicholas, into a close range one handed save from a decent header.
The victory was sealed for Wales shortly afterwards when substitute Charlie Williams (Bala Town) found himself in space to fire home a fierce shot from 20-yards in the 83rd minute.
Following the match, Wales manager Mark Pike said: "The players wore their hearts of their sleeves and were a credit to the clubs they are representing from the Welsh Academy System.
"I’m incredibly proud of the performances put in by each and every one of them. We created plenty of chances with Horwood and Williams scoring with good finishes to secure the victory."
