After two consecutive WPDL North titles, Under-19's Manager Dave Cavanagh expects a season of transition as 2017/18 campaign begins.
Speaking exclusively to the official Bangor City FC website, Manager Dave Cavanagh said:
“At the end of last season we said goodbye to quite a few players as they moved on to senior football. Antoni Sarnowski, Caio Hywel, Harry Galeotti, Ifan Emlyn Jones, and Sion Bradley are now representing clubs across the leagues and, of course, young Shaun Cavanagh (who made his first team debut at the age of 16) has signed for Llandudno."
"Adam Pritchard has moved to the USA on a 2-year scholarship in Iowa. Meredydd Derbyshire has also left us for a university placement at Cardiff Met University and as the season developed we also said goodbye to Ryan Owen. On a brighter note, defender Cai Owen signed a first team contract and is now a first team squad member."
“We are all really excited about the upcoming season. This season will be a transition season for the group, after losing so many young players at the end of last season due to them reaching the age limits for the league. We have had quite a few graduates from our Under-16’s progressing into the Under-19’s. The boys certainly have big shoes to fill having won and retained the Welsh Premier Development League North for the last two years."
“Player development is at the heart of everything we do."
“Lots of clubs around the area are consistently approaching our young players with promises of great things, but we emphasise the importance of learning the game first and focusing on selection for our first team."
“Young players need to understand the tactical, technical skills needed to be a good footballer before moving into senior football."
“This season our young players will benefit from video analysis of performances as an aid to understanding the tactical aspects of their game and those of their teammates.”
“We are hoping to work closely with both Kevin Nicholson and Gary Taylor-Fletcher to develop our young players - by inviting them to come and speak to the boys to share their experiences, and give an insight on what it takes to become a professional footballer”
