City U19's suffer defeat at Bala Town on WPDL North Matchday 3

Defending WPDL North champions fall to their second defeat of the campaign at Maes Tegid on Sunday

Bangor City U19’s entered Matchday 3 of the Welsh Premier Development League North on Sunday (10 September) looking to build on the previous week’s victory against Connah's Quay.

Unfortunately, Sam Jones was declared unfit through injury and City started the game with Mark Dunn up front.

The game was a tight affair with both teams well organised. The young Citizens tested the Bala keeper when Alex Boss rose at the far post with a fine headed effort from a Gruff Stead corner.

The Bala keeper was tested once more by Boss as the sprightly winger cut in from the left and struck a terrific shot that was saved by the keeper.

Hosts Bala did make a breakthrough towards the end of the half with a shot from outside the box that was parried by keeper Leon Jones into the path of an oncoming Bala player but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Half-Time: Bala Town U19 0-0 Bangor City U19

The second half saw both teams continue where they left off, with neither team creating any clear cut chances until Bala made the breakthrough on 52 minutes. City failed to deal with a long ball up the field, and although the effort was again well saved by Citizens’ guardian Leon Jones, the ball fell favourably for the opposition to take the lead.

With quarter of an hour left, Bala increased their lead when City again lost possession in midfield and the host took full advantage to increase the lead to 2-0.

The young Citizens capped off a sluggish performance by conceding a third goal with five minutes remaining. A cross into the box found a Bala striker who was allowed far too much time to get his effort on target and secure all three points for the hosts.

Although City showed some positive play in parts of the game, the young Citizens will be more than disappointed with the final outcome.

Full-Time: Bala Town U19 3-0 Bangor City U19

Next up for the Under-19's is a home fixture on Sunday, 17 September, when Cefn Druids are the visitors to Nantporth (2pm Kick Off).

5 sports clubs amongst winners in the Jewson Building Better Communities competition.
